1. Run hot water while the disposal runs and for 20 seconds after, to help move grease along.

2. Try a sink plunger over the drain (block the other side of a double sink first).

3. Check for a jam: turn the disposal OFF, and use the hex key in the bottom of the unit to free the blades. Never put your hand in a disposal.

4. Avoid chemical drain cleaners. They are especially risky with a disposal and a P-trap, they can splash back, damage seals, and sit in the trap.
